Day 1: Transfer from Kigali in Rwanda to Goma in D.R. Congo
On your arrival in Rwanda at Kigali international Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to Goma with one hour relaxation at the boarder while clearing with the Customs Officials . Dinner and Overnight at Mikeno Lodge in Congo near Virunga National Park.
Day 2: Congo Mountain Gorilla Trekking
Have an early breakfast and transfer to Virunga National Park Headquarters for briefing about Gorilla Trekking Rules and later proceed to the jungle forest to search for the Most Endangered Species of Mountain Gorillas with park rangers, Transfer to Goma after Gorilla trekking and stay at Hotel Relaxing. Dinner and Overnight.
Day 3: Climb Nyiragongo Volcano in Virunga National Park.
After an Early morning breakfast, head to the park headquarters for briefing with park rangers, start Hiking Nyiragongo volcano (climb takes about 4 to 5 hours). Hike through an impressive rain forest, the climb continues on the lava eruption fissure, reach the summit. Have the whole evening to enjoy the view from the crater and watch the lava inside. Dinner and Overnight in shelter at the crater.
Day 4: Descend Nyiragongo Volcano .
After Early Morning breakfast, descend down from Nyiragongo, meet our Guide to Kibati , Relaxation at the Lodge and if time allows take a community walk to view the community of Congolese watching their music and dance.
Day 5 – 6 Day: Transfer to Epulu.
Drive to Epulu via Beni Road – Overnight at Hotel Beni. Epulu is home to many okapis. Found only in the Congo, the okapi (Okapia johnstoni) is a shy and reclusive forest dweller and is the only living relative of the giraffe. It has an unusual coloration and distinctive markings, including stripes resembling a zebra, provide camouflage in the dense rainforest and protect it from many predators.
After breakfast visit Okapi Station. After lunch we begin trekking in the tropical forest We will be permitted to follow such a group into the Jungle forest and where, possible, take our tents and setting up our camp near to their bands. We are invited to spend the night around the camp fire, listening to their endless hunting stories under a beautiful blanket of African stars and pass the night in tents within a Pygmy village.
Day 8: Return to Goma.
Make a return journey back to Goma via Beni and Butembo. Stop to visit Semuliki River (home of Hippos, Crocodiles and so many bird species.. End of the Congo Gorilla Trekking Expedition Adventure .
