This 5-Days gorillas and chimpanzee trekking Uganda Rwanda will start and end in Kigali. This safari will take you to volcanoes national park for gorilla trekking and Nyungwe national park for chimpanzee trekking. Nyungwe is the largest montane forest in Central Africa with 13 species of primate; these include chimpanzee and large groups of Rwenzori colobus. Tracking in Nyungwe Forest National Park is on steep slippery hillsides and viewing is unpredictable. You will even have a chance of seeing birds which total to over 300 bird species, orchids and butterflies are other attractions. You will even have to visit Bwindi national park in Uganda for the second gorilla trekking activity.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival, night rest and Transfer to Volcanoes National park.
On arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to Chez Lando Hotel(Budget)/Gold Hills Residence(Deluxe)/Kigali Serena Hotel(Luxury) for a night rest. In the morning at 10:00am, you will be picked from your hotel by the Driver/guide and go for Kigali City tour. Visit the genocide memorial, local markets among others. Later, drive northwards to Volcanoes national park in Ruhengeri, a home to 360 Mountain Gorillas. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla view Lodge(Luxury)/Le Bambou gorilla Lodge(Deluxe)/Muhabura Hotel(Budget)
Day 2: First Gorilla Tracking and afternoon cultural walk.
In the morning at 7:30am, you will assemble at the park headquarters for a briefing in the morning together with your trekking gear and drinking water and packed lunch. Later ascend in the forest to track the gorillas, an activity that will take you 2-8 hours depending on the movement of the apes in their natural wild. After meeting and staying in the presence of the gorillas for a maximum of one hour, descend back to your hotel for relaxation. In the evening, you may go for nature walk or visit the Banyarwanda community. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Golden Monkey tracking and transfer to Bwindi NP.
In the morning fter breakfast, you will again enter the forest to track the smaller primates called Golden Monkeys. These primate species are very minimal in terms of numbers and this is why they are listed as endangered by the IUCN. Tracking time also vary and depends on the location of these Monkeys that day. Transfer back to your place of residence for lunch and after you transfer to Bwindi national park in Uganda.
Day 4: Second gorilla tracking and community walk.
In the morning, assemble at the park headquarters for briefing from the park rangers about the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas. Proceed for the memorable adventure in the forest, an activity that may take 2-6 hours depending on the movement of the animals. Meet and stay with the animals for a maximum of one hour, then descend to the park headquarters and then to your Lodge for lunch. In the evening, you may go for community walk where you will learn about their tradition.
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali and departure.
In the morning, you will set off back to Kigali, with stop over on the way to admire the beautiful topography, reaching early for your departure flight if on schedule.
